Etang de Berre - Chateauneuf les Martigues, Patafloux, Barlatier, Les Paluns

Châteauneuf les Martigues - Walk - Toute l'année

Where else but Camargue could you see such a maze of marshy landscapes? This 7 km flat and easy waterside walk along Etang de Bolmon lake, whose south bank twins with Etang de Berre lake, is a genuine geography lesson, where natural wet zones and human installations live happily side by side. Bolmon lake is a fragile environment bordering the Canal of Marseille: the ancient route to the Rhône river used by thousands of barges. Its astonishing "boat garages" were dug into the bed to facilitate sailing on the canal. This site is also home to the famous marshes of Barlatier and Paluns, where visitors can enjoy observing ducks, mallards, avocets, herons and ospreys according to the season.
