Puyloubier - Site
Puyloubier is at an altitude of 350 metres, below the blue-tinged rocks of the Sainte Victoire. It stands on an outcrop surrounded by wooded foothills, from where it got its name "Podium Luperium", or "Wolves' Hill", in the Middle Ages.
Its status as a conservation area makes it a truly restful and relaxing spot. It has the largest vineyard in the Bouches-du-Rhône, producing AOC Côtes de "Provence-Sainte-Victoire wines.
The old village has kept its character with narrow, sloping streets and fountains in its shady squares.
It is also a centre for hiking, rock-climbing and hang-gliding. The residents are known as Puyloubierens (population 1,671 in 2009). The proportion of natural areas in the village means that the population density is low (approximately 41 people per km²).
