Le village de Meyrargues

Meyrargues - Site

The small town of Meyrargues is 14 km north of Aix en Provence. It covers an area of 4,167 hectares, stands at an altitude of 235 metres, and has a population of 3,460.

Meyrargues is a mediaeval village nestling in the Durance valley, at the foot of a feudal castle which overlooks the village from the top of a rocky outcrop.

The castle was transformed in the 17th century by the D'Albertas family, whose name it has kept.

Between its remarkable fauna in the shadow of the Lubéron and the vast Ligourès forest which extends as far as Sainte-Victoire mountain, Meyrargues has preserved all the beauty of its environment.

If you take the road to the cemetery, in a valley behind the castle, you will see the ruins of an ancient Roman aqueduct which used to bring water to the city of Aix en Provence.

The "Heritage Discovery Trail, between nature and history" and the panoramic table on Saint Claude hill, will encourage more people to visit the town. You can find the panoramic table at the very top of Saint Claude hill.
