On October 5, 2013, the departmental museum of ancient Arles opened to the public a new wing of 800 square meters which accommodates the Roman barge which left the Rhône in 2010. It is a flat-bottomed boat, 31 meters long. , the best preserved in the world. The boat is presented in a navigation situation, in a specially designed pit, with its towing mast erected, its cargo of stones and various objects. The Arles-Rhône 3 barge is now classified as a "national treasure". In this new wing 480 objects have been installed to set up a whole museography around navigation, river and sea trade, the port and its trades.
