Henri Demarquette - Complete Bach 2/2
Arles - Musique classique - Friday 18 March 2022 at 8.30 pm.
Henri DEMARQUETTE, cello
Complete Bach - Part 2
J-S. BACH: Complete suites for solo cello - Part 2
Suite No. 4 in E flat major BWV 1010
Suite No. 5 in C minor BWV 1011
Suite No. 6 in D major BWV 1012
Within the musical heritage, the Six Suites for Solo Cello have the same status as The Well-Tempered Clavier. They are on the highest step of the pantheon. A summit of inspiration but also a joyous demonstration of technical know-how in which the music discovers all the facets of the human soul in its various means of expression. An inimitable science, both prodigious and accessible, that only geniuses can dispense. Bach's two great bodies of work are still the musician's bedside books.
"A passionate musician and a multi-faceted personality, Henri Demarquette plays the cello like one sets fire to a deep forest; not one of his bow strokes leaves one indifferent, for he awakens the unconscious of the music" - O. Bellamy, Le Monde de la Musique.
He wished to come and record the complete Suites for solo cello at the Méjan chapel, and has given us the immense pleasure of playing them for us in two concerts.
