Louis Aragon exhibition
Martigues - Historique - From 01/12 to 24/12/2021. Closed Monday and Sunday. - Free
Moreover, Aragon has been the object of so much discredit, ostracism, caricatures and political trials, that it remains basically unrecognized. What do we know about him beyond the public and popular image? Who has read his works and still reads him?
The exhibition presented here has for first vocation to allow a better knowledge of Aragon, to rehabilitate its memory. Indirectly, by following his path, this exhibition allows us to return to the major events of the twentieth century, a century in which his work and his political struggles have always wanted to engage.
The exhibition thus chronologically traces the development of Aragon's writing in its century. Impressively, it evokes this rich and complex journey, sinuous and honest, by which Aragon crossed and marked out the 20th century, faced each of its upheavals, by rolling up its sleeves to take it head on and readjusting its quill pen to write it down, constantly regenerating itself according to circumstances and over the course of its metamorphoses while remaining deeply faithful to just combat and to great love.
Despite the impossibility of reducing to a few images or extracts from texts such an immense and protean work or such a multiple and eventful man, the designers of the exhibition were keen to show first the immensity, the multiplicity and the diversity. facets of this great French voice (novelist, poet, chronicler, critic, Dadaist, surrealist, resistant, communist, realist, lyrical ...) but, finally and in filigree, the deep unity of the work and the life of 'Aragon.
Arranged on 27 panels, more than 300 photos, reproductions of manuscripts, documents (many of them unpublished) and almost all the covers of works or brochures of Aragon unfold before our eyes the itinerary of "the writing made man ”, which retranscribe“ sometimes the pains of man, often the abundance of the work, and always the density of a life ”.
The exhibition will be embellished with rare works from the Aragon donation to the city of Martigues, some of which are signed by the master.
