Invisible, un lien élémentaire nous relie au vivant. En traversant le temps et l'espace, l'acide désoxyribonucléique nous unit au monde.
Ce projet trouve sa source dans une résidence "Arts & Sciences" réalisée en 2019 au laboratoire "ingénierie cellulaire et génique" de l'institut RIGHT à Besançon. À cette occasion, l'ADN est devenu la nouvelle matière sculpturale de l'artiste. En manipulant cette macromolécule, en la rendant visible, il fait émerger une nouvelle pratique du portrait. En résultent des nuages, formes flottantes où l'on retrouve l'évanescence et le mystère de la morphogénèse : les méduses ADN. Par cette pratique, ce n'est plus la forme du visage qui nous représente, mais celle d'un précipité du génome qui nous détermine. Cette forme, on la retrouve aussi dans la méduse ADN d'un chat, d'une fougère ou d'une bactérie.
En se concentrant sur la forme de ces "méduses ADN" et en construisant grâce à elles un paysage virtuel, Fabien Léaustic aspire à positionner l'humain à égalité avec les autres membres de la grande famille du vivant. Ce projet permet peut-être d'échapper à la vision anthropocentrée de notre rapport à l'environnement et explore nos envies d'immortalité au travers de la mémoire numérique.
