The calanques of Marseille, Cassis and La Ciotat

Calanques National Park is an essential destination for any trip to Provence. A day is almost not enough to explore this mineral- and vegetation-rich natural asset! The magic begins in Marseille, at the Sormiou calanque (creek) to visit on foot. Next set sail for a tour of other calanques by boat from where you truly get the measure of the huge rocks rising up from the turquoise waters. Then it's onwards to La Ciotat where you can wrap up the day at the charming Petit Mugel creek. En route, you can't fail to be captivated by the soaring cliffs at Cap Canaille. Note: depending on the weather conditions, this site may be closed for walking due to the risk of forest fires. Get instant weather reports using the free Myprovence Balade app.

Provence's artists, on the trail of painters and filmmakers

Provence is a place where art comes to life. Its landscapes and light inspired Paul Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence, Van Gogh in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the Lumière brothers in La Ciotat and Pagnol in Aubagne. From Cézanne's studio to the Bibemus Quarries that were so inspiring, visit sites on which the painters left an indelible impression. Van Gogh painted almost 300 works in 15 months, his most prolific period, in Arles! From museums to iconic landscapes, this 4-day tour promises a journey of Provence through film and the fine arts.

La Montagnette and its monuments

La Montagnette is a low-altitude mountain in Bouches-du-Rhône set against dry and rugged terrain. It is replete with architectural gems to visit. Start the morning with a visit to the cryptoporticus in Arles. In Tarascon, take a tour of Saint Michel du Frigolet Abbey and Château du Roi René. Next head to Le Garde-Manger for lunch before venturing off to see Daudet's mills. When you reach Fontvielle, you can't miss Château Montauban and the Roman aqueduct. Finish on a high note at Montmajour Abbey.
