Essential La Ciotat – the cradle of cinema
For your one-day tour of La Ciotat, you can relax on the Grande Plage or the beach at Figuerolles, a popular spot for locals that you can't leave without seeing. Cinema lovers should head to the Eden Théâtre, famous for screening one of the first films produced by the Lumière brothers. The birth of film is also honoured at the Musée Ciotaden, a museum that retraces the town's history and the traditions of Provence. After an excellent lunch at Le Vin 7, potter around the shops at the Old Port. Later, make your way to the Ile Verte and Parc du Mugel for stunning views. Just don't forget your camera!
La Ciotat by Les Marseillaises
With its rocky creeks, the revival of its town centre and its maritime history, La Ciotat is a destination that combines the art of living, a natural landscape and new locations that are overflowing with history. In the town that has can be considered the birthplace of cinema and pétanque, you are sure to find some very good reasons for visiting! We are talking about La Ciotat, this typical Mediterranean town with magnificent beaches and creeks, where the noise of the shipbuilding yards ceased to exist a few years ago. Today, there is not only the coastal scenery to enjoy there is also the renovation of the ancient district of La Ciotat – or the "Coeur de ville" (the heart of the town) as it is lovingly known by the locals. We suggest visiting some of the new shops as well as some of the beaches and creeks.
Your tour of Martigues is designed for lazy contemplation and new discoveries. It's a quiet town so you might be surprised to see such rich heritage there, from the Annonciade Chapel to Fort Bouc and the Ziem Museum. The 'Venice of Provence' has a strong artistic legacy and you won't fail to be enchanted by the legendary 'Miroir aux Oiseaux', the place that gave so much inspiration to great masters. All rounded off with a gourmet meal on the canal side, what more could you want?
