Marseille, cultural city break – city centre

Since 2013, Marseille has focused its attention on promoting culture. One of the key cultural spots in the city is the Old Port with a rich mix of museums and other cultural attractions. Start at Fort Saint-Jean and onwards from there to the MuCEM. Then walk past the Villa Méditerranée to get to the Regards de Provence museum set in a former maritime health clinic. Opposite take a few moments to contemplate Marseille Cathedral. After lunch in the Joliette quarter, in the throes of redevelopment, the Vieille Charité cultural complex makes a fascinating visit. Your tour of Marseille concludes at the Friche Belle de Mai, a forum of culture and interaction. An ideal tour for a day in the city.

Arles and Van Gogh

This tour is centred around the ancient city of Arles, founded 2,500 years ago. A busy day ahead awaits during which you'll get to visit seven landmarks where Van Gogh came to find inspiration, including the Langlois Bridge and the Alyscamps. At the Espace Van Gogh, soak up the special atmosphere of the Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital. The Fondation Van Gogh, meanwhile, will show you the influence the Dutch painter has had on contemporary artists. For lunch look no further than the highly rated A Côté Le Bistro before visiting Montmajour Abbey.

A gastronomic Tour of Berre Lagoon

This tour is focused around Berre lagoon, the second-largest salt water lake in Europe. Located west of Marseille, it's a fantastic spot for checking out local producers and tasting what the land has to offer. From organic wines to artisanal ice creams, all the products are made in Provence. There is plenty to pack in so we suggest you pick your favourites from our gourmet suggestions or extend your stay to stagger the visits over two days.
