Local brands have been springing up everywhere for the last 30 years or so. 'Le Diable Noir', 'Casablanca' and 'Zaza of Marseille' got the ball rolling on Cours Julien in Marseille in the Eighties. Today 'Sessun', 'American Vintage', 'Gas', 'Le Temps des Cerises' and 'Souleïado' are flying the Made in Provence flag well beyond the French frontiers – proof indeed of the weight of an industry currently generating 19,000 jobs. A host of designer studios, boutiques and innovative concept stores now pay tribute to local creativity.
