Pélerinage à Notre Dame du Château

Depuis 1420, une chapelle du XIIème siècle sur le sommet d'une colline des Alpilles abrite une statue de la Vierge à laquelle la population d'un village de Vallouise (proche de Briançon) vouait un culte fervent.
L'histoire et la présence de cette statue dans le sanctuaire des Alpilles, apportée vers l'an 1350 par un pieux ermite pourrait s'expliquer par l'invasion des Vaudois dans le briançonnais.
Depuis lors, chaque année, le 5ème dimanche après Pâques, des pèlerins de toute la région, se rendent dès l'aurore au sanctuaire des Alpilles, où des messes sont célébrées. Vers la fin de la matinée, la statue de Notre Dame du Château est portée en procession dans l'église de St Etienne du Grès. Quelques heures après, elle est installée dans la collégiale Sainte Marthe à Tarascon où elle y demeurera 40 jours.
