Traditional festivals in Marseille

Head off to one of Marseille's many fairs to take home some unforgettable memories of the city! Traditional and religious fairs flourish here all year long.

During Assumption, the 'Fête de la Vierge' in the ancient Panier quarter is one of Marseille's most typical events, as is the 'Octave de la Chandeleur' at Saint Victor Abbey, bringing together hundreds of locals and pilgrims from throughout Provence. In December, don't miss the wonderful 'Fête de la Lumière' at Colline St Joseph park, offering traditional mulled wines and 'pompe à huile' bread made with olive oil! Finally, pay tribute to Saint Léon by taking part in the mass, procession and blessing of the sea. Check out the list of Marseille's fairs in this online cultural diary.
