Inédit en France, l’association Peplum organise depuis 1987 un festival de films liés à son patrimoine antique. Pendant une semaine au cœur de l’été sont projetés dans le cadre prestigieux du théâtre antique d’Arles des films du genre baptisé «peplum».
L’association s’attache à satisfaire un large public, mais un public familial, qui redécouvre un style cinématographique qui revient à la mode avec des films récents: Gladiator, Troie, Alexandre, Agora, Asterix, etc ... Par ailleurs, un réseau de passionnés s’est constitué et des relations étroites se sont créées autour de ce festival permettant à des trésors cinématographiques de ressortir de collection.
